THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: The Baton Rouge Community College has named its interim chancellor. James F. Horton Jr. will take over on July 5, 2011 as the temporary replacement for Myrtle Dorsey, who recently announced her resignation as chancellor.

Horton has worked in various positions for higher education since 1969. His most recent position comes from Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona, a community college with around 9,000 students.

ORIGINAL STORY: 04-14-2011 - The Baton Rouge Community College will begin searching for a new chancellor in May. That’s because current chancellor Myrtle E.B. Dorsey has resigned to take a similar position at St. Louis Community College in Missouri.

Dorsey has served as the chancellor since 2002, and has witnessed a near double in enrollment during that time.

Dorsey earned her doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin, and holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Morgan State University.

THE LCTCS Board of Supervisors will discuss the search for Dorsey’s replacement at their May meeting.
