BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Local HIV testing centers are busy trying to make sure everyone knows their status.
Since Baton Rouge is currently ranked number one in the country in reported HIV and AIDS cases. Test administrators say that residents need to come together as a community to combat the problem.
The Baton Rouge AIDS Society gives free testing year-round, but the CEO tells us that getting Baton Rouge out of first place is easier than you might think.
"The thing is, people have to get tested to really find out what their status is,” stated A.J. Johnson, CEO of the BR AIDS Society. “You can't say it's not me, it's not going to happen to me. It can happen to anyone. So how are we going to stop Baton Rouge from being number one? We get tested."
The Baton Rouge AIDS Society is open for testing, and everyone is welcome. The clinic is located on 4560 North Boulevard, Suite 100.
