A high-ranking official with BP told a court today that the drilling apparatus the company leased from Transocean had a good safety record before the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

That equpiment caused a well blowout and triggered an explosion that killed 11 workers.

A attorney with Transocean questioned former President of BP America Lamar McKay. Wednesday was his second day on the witness stand.

McKay stated he did not know of any reason to be wary of Transocean or its crew members on the rig; he went onto say that BP has accepted partial responsibility for causing the blowout of its Macondo well.

The trial is designed to identify the causes of the incident and to assign "fault percentages" to the companies involved.
