CADDO PARISH, LA (KTAL) — The Caddo Parish Sheriff's marine unit this morning, Friday, Feb. 24, found a body in the Red River. According Cindy Chadwick, public information officer for CPSO, Deputies Donna Jackson and Cecil Windom were on patrol on the Red River around 10:00 a.m. when they spotted what looked like a body.
As they approached they were able to confirm that it was, indeed, a body on the Bossier side of the Red River. They immediately contacted Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries and the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Department.
It is still unknown whether the body found was that of a Texas man who went missing earlier this month. However, Caddo and Bossier Parish marine units have continued the search for 63-year-old Dan Stanley from Bivens, Texas, since he went missing in the Red River Feb. 8, following a boating accident in which his cousin, Jerry Smith, 64, of Elm Grove, LA, was injured.
Sgt. Bill Davis, public information officer for Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office, said Smith was spotted near his wrecked boat by the rock jetty, cold and wet from being thrown from his boat. Smith also suffered a head injury and hypothermia and was airlifted to the LSU Hospital.
In addition to the Bossier Sheriff's Department, agencies working the accident included Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the South Bossier Fire Department, the Bienville Fire Department and the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office.
