Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Local residents have mixed opinions about gun control.
People NBC33 spoke with today agreed that they want a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity clips.
However, they were split on whether we need to perform tougher background checks on potential gun owners.
"All these criminals are out here with guns, and people like me need a gun to protect myself”, stated resident Quendon Anderson. “I’m not going to be able to get it, and with all these criminals in the street - they are going to have guns, and they can do what they want with us."
"I think that there should be a limit on who is allowed to get guns. I think there should be background checks,” said Latoya Butler. “I mean, if you have to go check people's social security, their criminal history, credit history, see whether or not they've been in the mental ward - whatever you have to do. There should be some kind of control in gun control."}
