Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The Capitol City experienced a big Super Bowl weekend.
According to Visit Baton Rouge, early numbers show visitors spent nearly $20 million dollars in just a few days.
Restaurants were busy, and hotels were about 90 percent full for Super Bowl weekend; usually, occupancy is around thirty percent this time of year.
Paul Arrigo with Visit Baton Rouge said that the Super Bowl weekend was a good chance to show off the city, and it paid off.
“It’s outstanding for this time of year, particularly for a weekend like the Super Bowl, where you have less travel than you anticipate,” stated Arrigo. “I had a meeting with the surrounding parishes, and it looked like all of the area did very well.”
Arrigo said the combination of Super Bowl weekend and Mardi Gras was a big factor.
This weekend is expected to be another big one due to the Mardi Gras parades happening in Baton rouge, New Orleans, and the surrounding areas.
