Baton Rouge leads nation in AIDS cases

For the second year in a row, Baton Rouge leads the nation in AIDS cases.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, Baton Rouge has the highest AIDS cases per capita in the nation and second highest amount of HIV cases.

This is something that many here say is simply not acceptable. The Baton Rouge AIDS Society and the HIV/AIDS Alliance for Region Two provide free testing. However, the President of the AIDS Society, Reverend A.J. Johnson, says free testing just isn’t enough to curb the infection rate.

"We really have to punch the panic button, and we haven't done that,” stated Johnson. “We have to put something in place that has been proven in other cities to reduce the number of aids cases in their community."
