Baton Rouge holds International Heritage Festival

Sunday, October 23, 2011 - 5:09pm

The International Heritage Festival kicked off today at the Baton Rouge River Center, highlighting the culture and customs from countries all across the globe.

Cultural representatives from over 40 different countries participated in today's event.

Exhibits displayed international and local customs, dancing, and cuisine. Many people came out to enjoy the worldly atmosphere.

Festival goers like Stephanie Turner got a chance to learn first-hand how countries from Bulgaria to Venezuela express themselves. She said it's important people get to know exactly what cultures we are made up of.

"Everybody's really into their own lives, and sometimes they don't realize if they get out and experience other people's views and their culture, they're not going to know what the rest of the world is like," said turner.

The festival is going on at the River Center and right outside on River Road until 8:30 tonight. It's a free event.
