Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Baton Rouge Food Bank CEO Michael Manning is fuming after thieves broke into the soon-to-be renovated food bank facility, and stole the building's copper wiring.
"How can you feel? It's very disappointing,” stated Manning. “It's going to be a significant amount of cost… to what we're going to have to do in the renovations."
The thieves actually cut the copper wiring, and to fix everything that the thieves took here at the facility, it'll cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is going to affect the services that the food bank provides to hundreds of families throughout the holidays season.
This affects many people that go to the food bank, such as Juda Wince. This is the first time she has needed help feeding her family, but she's thankful they're here to help her out when she needs it most.
"It's hard right now and every little bit helps,” said Wince. “It provides food for my family, because right now I'm working part time. It kind of helps with the groceries and helps take care of my special needs grandson, so it comes in handy… it's a blessing."
Manning hopes not for a blessing, but for some justice.
"I think anybody, when they see something like this, it's got to be frustrating,” said Manning. “It's got to be devastating, especially at this time of year. I can understand that there are people in need much more than most people, but to do something like this is just really sickening."
