The Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre will host Ailey II of New York City on Sunday, October 20, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. at the River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Ailey II is universally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of the most talented young dancers with the passion and creative vision of today’s outstanding emerging choreographers. The company embodies Alvin Ailey’s pioneering mission to establish an extended cultural community that provides dance performances, training, and community programs for all people.

Under the artistic direction of Troy Powell, the Ailey spirit shines as this critically acclaimed company presents an exhilarating and diverse repertory of timeless classics and thrilling new works.

Ailey II will perform a variety of dance pieces from its repertoire including excerpts from Revelations. Using African-American spirituals, song-sermons, gospel songs and holy blues, Alvin Ailey’s Revelations fervently explores the places of deepest grief and holiest joy in the soul.

“Every American owes it to him or herself to see the Ailey [company] perform Revelations. It is an American phenomenon. I’ve probably seen it countless times and every time it’s magical and spiritual and hopeful - everything that we want ourselves to be and hope that our country will be.” - Oprah Winfrey on Entertainment Tonight, 12/4/08

Tickets range from $35 to $40 and are available through Ticketmaster, the River Center Box Office or by calling the BRBT office at 225.766.8379. Season tickets, which also include The Nutcracker-A Tale form the Bayou and Snow White Ballet are available for a special price of $108. Season ticket holders receive priority seating at all shows.

A portion of Ailey II ticket sales will be used to provide a local public school the opportunity to have Ailey II perform a lecture-demonstration on their campus.
