Assumption Sheriff to host safety expo
Thursday, September 29, 2011 - 5:00pm

The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a Kids’ Safety Expo on October 8, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Payless Shopping Center parking lot, located at 260 Hwy 70 Spur in Plattenville.

Every day in the United States, an average of 2 children age 12 and younger are killed and 340 are injured in motor vehicle traffic crashes as occupants of passenger vehicles. For children ages 1 through 12, it is the leading cause of death. It is also estimated that of the vehicles that are equipped with child safety seats, 9 out of 10 of those seats are installed incorrectly. This child safety seat check-up can help prevent the misuse of child seats by educating the public on the proper seat and installation for the vehicle being used.

Scheduled events for the Kids’ Safety Expo are:

• Child safety seat checks by certified technicians
• Child fingerprinting for parents’/guardians’ records
• Fatal Vision driving course for teens (golf cart)
• Halloween safety bags for trick-or-treaters
• Spacewalk for children
• Hot dogs and refreshments
• Baked goods

Child safety seat checks will be done by appointment only.
For appointments, please call Captain Ray Traigle at (985) 369-7281.
