In Ascension parish, members of our armed services were also remembered in a touching ceremony.

Several hundred veterans, family and friends came to the Ascension Parish Veterans Memorial Park today.

On display was a casket symbolizing those who've given the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Each branch of the military was represented with their respective head dress.

Brigadier General Stephen Dabadie applauded those who gave up their Memorial Day activities to honor our fallen soldiers.

"You see a ceremony that takes place in the middle of day with 300 to 500 people - a crowd - and have them celebrate those that have lost their lives, so we can live free in the greatest country in the world, America," said Dabadie.

Ascension Parish Veterans Memorial Park provides an environment where people can remember and honor the contributions of all United States Veterans.
