For eight years Forum 35 has brought some of the greatest talent the state has to offer to the streets and galleries in downtown Baton Rouge. This year, that same rule will apply, but with a couple of new exceptions.

First off, the deadline for entry to artists has been extended until June 10. The purpose is to give artists a little more time to get their work in. And just what type of art are they looking for? Anything, really. All mediums are considered.

Art Melt Board Chairman Scott Higgins told NBC33 News that the purpose of the show is to all that the state has to offer in terms of the visual arts. Providing those opportunities, he says, is just one way of attracting more creative thinkers to the state, and hopefully keeping them.

"I think Art Melt is a huge opportunity for an artists you get to show your art and have 8,000 people see your work in one night, that a pretty tough thing to compete with in terms of any where else," Higgins explained.

Another change this year will be in the day of the week the show falls. Traditionally the competition was opened to the public on a Friday. This year, that will happen on Saturday, July 16. The preview party will be held on the same night as usual, however, on Thursday, July 13.
