Area volunteers ready to help tornado victims
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — As devastating tornados tore through the Midwest, Nancy Malone and other Red Cross volunteers were getting ready to answer the call for help.
"Our volunteers are ready to go. They’re already saying, 'hey I am ready to go if you need me. So we're just waiting to hear what are the needs specifically from our area," said Malone.
Though Louisiana area volunteers haven't been called up yet, Malone said it is very likely happening in the next few days, as for those who can't travel to help, there are ways to get involved right here.
"what you can do is by the giving of your financial dollar as well, and that goes to help again with those very specific, immediate needs; shelter, food, clothing, if that's what's needed right now. "
Malone explained that tragic disasters like these, are reminders that volunteers are needed year-round. With the holiday season coming up she's hoping you'll think about giving some of your time.
"What can you do locally? Volunteer. The holidays are coming up, you may have some extra times to volunteer. Take some time this holiday season and become ready to serve right here in our own community or get ready to deploy if it calls."
