Louisiana — The deadline to apply to become a member of the Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) is March 15.
The council facilitates communication between youth and the legislature; gives students the opportunity to be involved in the workings of state government; and addresses issues of importance to young people, including education, community service, strategies to increase youth participation in government, safe environments for youth, health and physical fitness, and other teen issues.
LYAC is a 21-member youth council composed entirely of students, including two student members from each of the congressional districts and additional at-large members. Applicants must be enrolled in a public or non-public school, or a home school during the 2013-2014 school year.
Students may apply online or complete the PDF application and mail to the address listed on the application. Both applications may be found at http://civiced.louisiana.gov .
