BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — January 13 is National Amber Alert Awareness Day.
The system is responsible for successfully finding more than 600 kids who had been abducted. Louisiana has been lucky. There haven’t been an amber alerts here since 2008. While law enforcement officers here in the state hope to never have to use an amber alert, they know it’s an important resource in finding missing children.
“It sends a message out to so many people that if this kid’s missing that somebody out in the state may have seen them,” says Louisiana State trooper Jared Sandifer.
Since the beginning 2013 amber alerts are automatically sent to all cell phones that are wireless emergency alert capable.
