37-year-old man killed by passing car on Hwy 1024 in Livingston Parish
LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA — Shortly before midnight on Friday, June 14, Troopers from Louisiana State Police began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on LA Hwy 1024 east of LA Hwy 16 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of Bennie D. McInnis, 37, of Denham Springs.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as McInnis was walking eastbound in the eastbound lane of LA Hwy 1024. At the same time, Phoebe Perault, 41, of Denham Springs was driving a 2009 Dodge Caravan eastbound on LA Hwy 1024. Perault was unable to avoid McInnis, and he was struck by the Caravan as he was walking in the roadway.
McInnis sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Impairment on the part of McInnis is unknown at this time; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from him to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Impairment on the part of Perault is not suspected to be a factor, and she was not cited in the crash.
