A 2-year-old child is being treated at a Baton Rouge hospital for injuries caused by what seems to be a freak accident.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that its agency was called to a location in Maurepas to investigate on Wednesday, July 3 at roughly 11:00 a.m. The toddler was found unresponsive in a parked car.

So far investigators believe the child accidentally raised an open window onto his head, causing him to cut off circulation and lose consciousness. The child was allegedly strapped into safety restraints, but somehow managed to unlock them.

The child is being treated at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, and is currently listed in critical condition.

Officials say they will not release any additional details regarding the investigation and they have not made any arrests at this time. They will, however, provide a full update once the investigation is completed.
