Livingston, LA (NBC33) - Livingston Parish Sheriff Willie Graves has announced plans to retire.

Graves tells NBC33 News he won't seek reelection for the position.

Graves' father, Odom Graves, was LPSO Sheriff prior to Willie. When Odom Graves announced his retirement plans in 1995, Willie Graves decided to run for Sheriff. He was elected with 79% of the vote and sworn in in 1996. He was re-elected three times.

Graves still has another 18 months until his term ends. When he retires, he plans to spend time with his family, ride his motorcycle, and take a few trips. Deputies and employees at the sheriff's office say Graves will be greatly missed, but most were very happy for him.

There is no word yet on who will step up to run for the job, but sources close to NBC33 tell us Deputy Chief Jason Ard might be running. An announcement about that could come as early as next week. We'll continue to keep you posted.
