Schools in Assumption Parish are running with a $5 Million shortfall.
School board members voted 7-2 Wednesday night to layoff 96 workers - more of them teachers and paraprofessionals.
The move is expected to save the District just over $3 Million.
Tibby Martinez says the decision took some time, and wasn't easy to make. Parents we spoke with say the move is causing concerns ranging from class size to quality of education.
The District made cuts to their staff in 2004, and again in 2005. Most of those were hired back. Martinez says he expects much of the same this time around.
The board will meet again early next month to decide which positions to cut.
