THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office is getting nearly $150,000 in federal money to put security cameras in the 15 public elementary schools that don't have them.

Two Lafourche Parish public elementary schools already have
cameras. The sheriff's office applied for the money in April - a month
after an elementary school student sneaked a gun onto the Thibodaux Pass campus.

In May, a 15-year-old student fired above a teacher's head, then
shot himself at Larose-Cut Off Middle School. Justin Doucet died five days later.

Seth Holloway, the school system's safety and maintenance manager, says 16 cameras will be installed at each elementary school. He says he and police will both be able to monitor them. No installation timetable has been set.
