LA family wins award after making movie in 48 hours
New Orleans (WGNO) -- 28-year old, Andrew Bryan directed a magnificently magical short film called, "The Wand".
"The Wand" stars Bryan's daughter, Adriana and his wife, Chelsea.
"I knew we had something special. My best asset as a director is having a wife whose a really good actress and a daughter whose great on camera," he said.
He made the film in just 48 hours and entered it in the 48 Hour Film Project contest.
"The Wand" ended up taking home the top prize after premiering at the 48 Hour Film Project. It has since screened at both the New Orleans Film Festival and Filmapalooza.
"It's amazing that something I did in just 2 days has had such a profound impact, more than anything else I've done in the past. When people come up to me and tell me that the movie made them cry, it's definitely exciting. That's what I was going for," he said.
Bryan graduated from the University of New Orleans, where he studied film.
"The Wand" was shot in Houma at a family member's home.
"It's short, but it packs a whole lot of punch in that short amount of time," he said.
He's very proud of his 5-year old daughter, Adriana's performance.
"I was just blown away. I knew she was good in front of the camera, but I was really impressed with how good she did," Bryan said.
Little Adriana's spell-binding performance even won the 48 Hour Film Project's "Best Actress" award.
The Bryan family's next project is a film called, "Angel of Joy" starring both Chelsea and Adriana.
They plan on shooting it in Shreveport and entering it in the Louisiana Film Prize contest.
