BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) -- Dedicated runners want to keep to their course around the lakes, but a new construction project makes for a dangerous jog.
The Sanitary Sewer Overflow construction project has much of Stanford Avenue near the lakes blocked off, but joggers and runner are ignoring the warning signs. Construction crews say they've seen a non-stop flow of people traveling through the area near the lakes, despite signs and fences that say the road is closed.
One such jogger is Stephanie Incaprera. "I came across this stop and I had to actually crawl underneath the thing to finish my run. I have no idea what's going on, but it definitely wasn't pleasant," she says.
Construction will continue on Stanford for the next six weeks at least. Workers urge people running and walking around the lakes to steer clear of the area.
