Jindal declares state of emergency
Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Governor Jindal has declared a state of emergency and puts the National Guard on alert because of rising river levels along the Mississippi.
This in preparation of the Mississippi River predicted to crest well above flood stage.
Jindal made the announcement from the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness around noon.
Storms and heavy rain up-river have already caused flooding in Missouri and Arkansas, and forecasters have predicted the Mississippi will crest at Vicksburg at its highest point since 1937.
