Jambalaya Champions assist in Joplin effort
GONZALES, LA (NBC33) — Cooks with the Jamblaya Festival Association are heading north to Joplin, Missouri.
Past and present Jambalya champions are donating their time, money, and skills to give the folks affected by the tornados last month some Louisiana home cooking and hospitality.
This group of cooks have already taken time from work to make the trip, but local businesses have helped out, like Lamendola's Grocery providing food, and Hebert Steel provided a brand new hauling trailer.
Rhett Bourgeois with the Jambalaya Festival Association said they appreciate all they've received so far.
"Everytime this hits the air they're calling me with from twenty dollars to five hundred dollars. The little mom and pop that can afford twenty dollars, we're very thankful. The guy that's got the five hundred, we're very thankful for him." said Bourgeois.
