STORMTRACKER 33 — Irene has become better organized during the last 6 hours and a ragged eye is appearing in Satellite pictures. Irene has become the first Hurricane for the 2011 Season. The maximum sustained winds are 80 mph and moving west-northwest and this general track is expected to continue.
Global forecast models keep Irene moving in this general direction with and gradual turn towards the North. Hurricane Irene looks to become a major threat for the Florida coast and some strengthening is forecasted. The official track has changed little and further updates will continue through the day. Irene does not look as though it will be a threat to the Gulf of Mexico but will be track closely.
