BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - —
The louisiana house has broken through a stalemate on a nearly $25 billion budget for next year.
There was a stall in discussions over where to make cuts. The house backed a proposal with $232 million more in state funding cuts than Gov. Jindal wanted. The governor said the reductions would devastate public safety, close prisons, hinder education programs and strip dollars that pay for medicaid services.
The house approved a final 2011-12 spending plan in a 93-4 vote. the Senate finance committee begins its budget hearings Monday, with only a few weeks left in the legislative session. The new fiscal year begins July 1.
