BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - — Baton Rouge Metro Council says homeowners should have a say in what the speed limit should be where they live.

In an 8-1 vote Wednesday night - Council passed an ordinance that does just that.

Now - homeowners on residential streets can talk to Council about lowering the 30 mile per hour speed limit to 25.

According to the Ordinance, 65% of homeowners on the street have to be in favor of the change. That petition is brought to council, who sents it to the Department of Public Works. DPW will conduct a survey on the street before making the change.
