BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - Louisiana lawmakers got a chance to review Governor Bobby Jindal's budget for the first time.
The Jindal administration presented the governor's executive budget to the joint legislative budget committee this morning.
Jindal's proposed budget is $25 billion; that's a billion less than what the state had to work with this year.
The goals outlined in the proposal revolve around one idea - reducing the size and cost of government instead of cutting programs.
NBC33 has been told several state programs and agencies, face consolidation. Thousands of workers could lose their jobs.
A final version of the 2011-12 budget won't be crafted by lawmakers until June, but a draft of Govenor Jindal's executive budget for the upcoming year has been posted.
