BAKER,LA (NBC33) — The music, the food, the cake equal all the makings of a family birthday party, but there's one thing that makes this gathering all the greater.
"I'm 110," said Mrs. Josephine Guy. That's right. There are less than 400 supercentenarians living in the
world, and Mrs. Josephine Guy of Zachary is one of them. She credits her health and long life to one thing--her faith. "I thank God for his blessings he has given me. If it weren't for him, I don't know where I'd be."
Likewise, her family says they are where they are in life--because of their mother.
"She has taken care of us from day one. We love her, she's just awesome. She's just awesome."
And even with several grandchildren, great grands, and great-great grands, Josephine Still finds time to do a few of her favorite things. "She must have worked in the garden til she was about 100 years old," said her sister, Daisy Anderson Square. Her daughter, Willie Lewis says, "She loves sports, especially baseball; she likes football too. 'Play ball boys,' that is her song." Not only is she active, but healthy. Her siblings, aged 89 and 96, told us she rarely had to take medicine in her youth. Whether one year old, one hundred and ten years old, or somewhere in between, loved ones were grateful to witness this milestone.
"It's a precious day," said Lewis. "Not only is it a precious day in history, it's a precious day in our life." "I'm proud of her living to be so long," added Square.
And like the gold that she wore that day, her family says her heart is exactly the same. It's golden.
"She would raise food that she did not eat, but she would share with friends. [She'd] give it to the friends"
She's the most beautiful woman in the world and we love her.
Mrs. Guy told us her family "means everything to her." She was smiling and laughing with family and friends throughout her party.
