Tonight the Baton Rouge Gallery will open its doors for a very special exhibit featuring aspiring young artists.

“The community will be able to view over 40 works of original art from East Baton Rouge public and private high school students,” Jason Andreasen, Baton Rouge Gallery Executive Director, said. “The exhibition is sponsored by the Louisiana University School of Art.”

The juried competition “Real-Life Experience” is an annual event for the gallery and it allows students the chance to show their work in a professional setting. It also affords those included a first chance at gaining recognition in the industry.

“In March, roughly 150 of original art were submitted for possible inclusion in this competitive exhibition,” Andreasen noted. “In keeping with the spirit of the exhibition’s title, this truly is a ‘real-life experience’ in that not every student who submits work is included in the exhibition. As professional artists find every time they seek to participate in a juried exhibition, life as a visual artist is difficult and highly competitive.”

Three jurors were assembled to select the top entries. Top prizes will be issued during the opening reception and over $1,400 in scholarships will be awarded.

The opening reception will be held on Wednesday, April 3 beginning at 7:00 p.m. and will continue until 9:00 p.m. The Baton Rouge Gallery is located in City Park. For more information call (225) 383-1470, or click here.
