Over 500 YMCA summer campers from across the area joined together for the 3rd Annual Olympic Day.

The campers gathered in the Port Allen High School gym. Activities included shuttle run, tug of war, frisbee throw and dancing.

YMCA officials tell us that Olympic Day is to help encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, friendship, and leadership as well as health and wellness.

Even though the events were moved inside because of the rain, all the participants say they still had fun.

"My favorite part is hanging out with my friends and to see who's doing some friendly competition,” stated camper Reagan Gautreaux. “Just having fun with my friends.”

"My favorite part is seeing the kids get excited when they win a race, or when one of their friends wins a race and then encouraging each other to do the best that they can," said YMCA Marketing Director Kristen Hogan.

The winners even got to participate in an awards ceremony, complete with medals.
