A couple of Livingston Parish Waste Management workers are now heroes.

Sheronda Jones and Craig Polk work for Waste Management. Every day is pretty much the same, until one day everything changed.

"We were going down one of our normal streets, and my helper heard someone hollering for help," Sheronda said. "He got off the back and ran to see what was going on."

"I went over there, and we saw her in her doorway," Craig said. "She was actually on the floor, and I've never seen anything like it."

Jackie Shotwell had actually been on the floor for nearly an hour. When Jackie fell, she broke her ankle, and she couldn't move. So her family had no idea something was wrong, but Sheronda and Craig did.

"It's just a miracle and a godsend for them to be there at that particular time," Thomas Johnson, Jackie's grandson said. "I left work and got over there. I saw the Waste Management guys there waiting outside and staying with her. When I went inside, I kind of thought, at first, we could just pick her up, put her in the car, and bring her to the hospital, but her ankle was broke pretty bad. First thing she said when she got to the hospital was 'Please call Waste Management and tell them what those guys did for me.'"

Jackie was in a lot of pain, but she was grateful.

"She was so strong about it, and I'm like about to cry, and she's not crying, but I'm wanting to cry," Sheronda said.

"It made me feel like a hero. I did the right thing," Craig said.

I didn't get a chance to talk to Jackie because she's still recovering right now. She had surgery on her ankle, but I'm told she's doing just fine. She should be up and running soon.
