Waste Management rolls out environmentally friendly trucks
BATON ROUGE (NBC33) — Waste Management (WM) unveiled their new fleet of environmentally friendly trucks that run on compressed natural gas (CNG).
WM officials made the announcement Thursday morning at the Louisiana Police Jury Association Annual Convention.
The new trucks are expected to reduce CO2 emissions in Baton Rouge.
Officials said this will also help the Capital Region adhere to the stricter ozone pollution standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency. The city has only recently been able to meet those standards.
According to the WM website, the 40 new trucks will eliminate over 880 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions a year.
Representatives of WM also say the new trucks will also help reduce noise pollution because they’re about 50 percent quieter than the older models.
