BATON ROUGE (NBC33) — For months we've been telling you about Triumph Kitchen, the homegrown non-profit that teaches at-risk youth how to work in the restaurant industry.
Triumph Kitchen is finally ready to open its door wide to the public.
Since the fall, Chef Chris Wadsworth and his wife have been working to transform the downtown space into a fully functioning kitchen, restaurant, and coffee bar.
Wadsworth says it's been a labor of love, but he's ready to get students and guests inside.
“In 5 months we've accomplished a lot,” said Wadsworth. “There's been a lot of support. It's been a blessing for sure to be able to get students in here. Our students are actually in their second day so it's a fabulous feeling for sure.”
Wadsworth is a successful chef and says cooking helped him find a purpose and a path to follow when he dropped out of high school. He's hoping to give the same hope to others.
The coffee bar will open to customers Friday morning. Triumph Kitchen is located at 320 Third St. in Baton Rouge.
