BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Tibetan monks are staying here in Baton Rouge in preparation for the Dalai Lama's birthday on Friday.
This is the first time these monks have visited the Capital City.
They are staying at the Tam Bao Meditation Center off of Florida Boulevard for the remainder of the week.
They will be constructing a mandala, which is a sand painting that symbolizes concentration, compassion and love.
The monks say this is a great learning opportunity for anyone here in southern Louisiana.
"This is a great opportunity to learn a new culture,” stated Thay Dao Quang. “We have the opportunity to open our hearts, to open our minds, and to learn how to accept the cultural differences - I can learn from you, and you can learn from me also.”
The Tam Bao Meditation Center is open to the public this week from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.; everyone is encouraged to stop by.
