Three area graduating seniors win National Merit scholarships

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced this week that about 2,500 graduating seniors across the United States are winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities. Three of the thousands were from East Baton Rouge Schools.

Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the Finalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

EBR Schools’ winners were:
• Leo T. Park, Probable career field: Mathematics, BATON ROUGE MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL
NATIONAL MERIT WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN ST. LOUIS SCHOLARSHIP

• Simon G. Lorenzo, Probable career field: Astrophysics, McKINLEY HIGH SCHOOL
NATIONAL MERIT LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP

• Sean G. Polozola, Probable career field: Finance, WOODLAWN HIGH SCHOOL
NATIONAL MERIT LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP
