Slam poetry will take over the main stage at the Baton Rouge Community College on Wednesday. The event is free and open to the public.

Skidmore, an educator, poet, and organizer, has represented Baton Rouge at the National Poetry Slam from 2000 to 2010, serving as both a coach and team member. He was also ranked twice among the top five slam poets in the United States through that competition and in December of 2010 ranked 3rd at the Individual World Poetry Slam Festival.

In addition to performing, he teaches poetry to teens in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas through the Forward Arts’ WordPlay Teen Writing Project. He serves as executive director of Forward Arts, Inc. and works as program manager/lead teaching-artist.

The event will be held at the Magonlia Theatre on BRCC's campus on Wednesday, March 20 at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
