A new world of books is open to the people of Baton Rouge.

The Fairwood Branch Library held its grand opening today, and locals were there to browse and borrow its 28,000 books.

The library is almost five years in the making and was built to include some of the latest technology and facilities - features that will make it an excellent resource for residents for years to come.

"When you build a library, you don't build it for today and who's going to use it today. You build it for today and tomorrow,” stated State Librarian Rebecca Hamilton. “So you build for growth, build for technology. You build for all those things our children are going to use."

The library cost $5.5 million to build, but has already been paid for by tax payers.
