BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Louisiana may be the home of a new National Hurricane Museum and Science Center.
State and national leaders are pushing for the museum and science center to be built near Interstate 10 in Lake Charles.
The estimated cost of the project is $68M.
If advocates can make it happen, it would provide education, training, and a memorial for the thousands who have died due to hurricanes in the US and world wide.
The Committee of 100 hosted a preview of the project in Baton Rouge as part of the efforts to raise funds from public and private sources.
Fund development programs are being spearheaded by the DC-based consulting firm Chora, Inc., whose principals have years of museum/science center and fund raising experience.
If they’re able to raise the funds, organizers plan to begin construction, tentatively, for 2015.
