More than 100,000 square feet will be filled with antique dealers, specialty retailers, artisans and craftsmen at the 2nd Annual Market at the Mill extravaganza in New Roads this weekend, April 12-14.

The public shopping and dining event will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13; and from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15. The event is sponsored by the Mayor Robert Myer, the City of New Roads and members of the Market at the Mill committee. All activities and booth will be hosted in the old seed house of the Southern Cotton Oil Company, which closed in 1979, but has been renovated to host large public events.

The first 2,000 visitors to the event will receive a collector’s reusable shopping tote with the Market at the Mill’s commemorative logo.

“This weekend’s event is a great opportunity to shop for special, one-of-a-kind items in a unique historical setting,” said Mayor Robert Myer.

He noted that the renovation of the old mill is part of the development of a new community park, which includes a recently completed a state-of-the-art athletic field, bleachers and public parking space, with plans for a new splash park, walking trails and common green space to be completed in Phase III of the project.

“Over the past year, the City of New Roads and a committee of dedicated residents have worked diligently to transform what was recently an old eyesore to the community into something of unique historical significance,” said Lauren Jones, director of the New Roads Main Street Program.

Jones said the event will offer shoppers a variety of merchandise, including antique furniture, reproductions, rugs, architectural & garden pieces, pottery, ceramics, glassware, art, jewelry, wood & metal works, and fine gifts.
Virginia Monceret, chair-woman of the Market at the Mill Committee, said organizers are looking forward to a great second year for the event!

“Market at the Mill is an annual event and a major fundraiser to help in the restoration of the old mill building. It’s a great opportunity for local community members to support a great cause and for visitors to New Roads to enjoy a day of fun, shopping and history in our beautiful city,” Monceret said.
