Louisiana chefs get ready to cook a mega meal

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Families across Louisiana are getting ready to start cooking Easter lunch. Saturday cooks crammed the groceries and farmers markets to pick up those last minute goodies.
"A good Louisiana Easter I would have to say would be just the whole Southern cooking with the spices. Something that you wouldn't find up North at family cooking for Easter you know," Emily Normand, cooking Easter dinner, said.
Emily Normand and her son hayes hit the grocery to get ready for Sunday's mega meal.
"We are going to do a traditional Easter. My grandma just passed away and we are going to try and do all of her dishes: macaroni and cheeses, some casserole, pasta, potato salad. You know the traditional stuff," Normand explained.
"Chicken," Hayes Vidrine, Normand's son, said. "Sometimes it might just be carrots."
"We love food that's for sure," Joanna Eskins, cooking Easter dinner, said.
Joanna Eskins and her family also like to cook in for Easter instead of going out to eat.
"We've done both but we prefer doing it as a family everybody brings something, and it's always good," Eskins explained.
Lots of families in Louisiana will spend Sunday morning set up in the kitchen.
"Just cooking dinner and having the whole family there to enjoy everyone's meals is a lot more family oriented," Normand stated.
"I don't watch her make Easter food. I just watch TV and play games thats usually all I do," Vidrine said.
Eskins, Normand, and Vidrine agree in the end everyone enjoys a little bit of home cooked Louisiana food and seeing their family.
"My favorite thing about Easter is spending time with my family," Vidrine exclaimed. "Happy Easter!
