A nationally renowned Baton Rouge artist has donated two sculptures to be displayed at Convention Street Park in downtown.

JoJo Jilbert is an environmentally-friendly artist who creates his works of art from scrap metal used at old industrial sites such as sugar cane mills and oil fields. Most of his work is displayed at Circa 1857 on Government St.

Jilbert’s sculptures were installed at the Convention Street Park on Monday, May 6.

Convention Street Park opened in December 2012 and was constructed in partnership with the Housing and Urban Development Authority (HUD), the Downtown Development District and the Baton Rouge Walls Project. The park connects the hearts of the historic Spanish Town and Beauregard Town neighborhoods and includes bases and spaces designed to include public art and sculpture.

Funding for Convention Street Park came from the "Imagine Your Parks" program passed by voters in 2004.
