There is a big increase in the number of kids graduating high school in Louisiana. Governor Jindal said just over half of the districts in the state have more kids getting their cap and gown.

Louisiana has had of history of reforming education. And now, some students, even the governor, say it's working.

"We have fewer kids dropping out and potentially entering the juvenile justice system, fewer kids dropping out and becoming dependant on government programs, more kids who can get good paying jobs to support themselves," said Louisiana Governor, Bobby Jindal.

The graduation rate in the state has improved drastically and along with state officials, high school students see the improvements too.

“It makes me proud to be in one of the districts with the highest graduation rate, because it shows how much improvement and hard work we’ve done," said Donaldsonville High School student, Carly Harris.

"It shows that Louisiana as a whole is doing great teaching the students, and not only the students, but the faculty, too," said Donaldsonville student, Kaylynn Jospeh.

Joseph is the top of her class at Donaldsonville High School and with a push from her peers and teachers, her dream of becoming a pharmacist is right in front of her.

"Anything is possible. You just have to try hard enough," noted Joseph.

Educators said they know the only way to reach education goals is to be a part of the solution.

"Our teachers have pushed her since she was a freshman to achieve at a high level," said Principal of Donaldsonville High School Principal, Dr. Esrom Pitre.

Even though the state has seen great strides in education, the work doesn't stop here.

"Until we get to 100 percent, we're not going to rest until every child is continuing their education here in Louisiana, not in another state,” noted Governor Jindal. “We know we're not done."

The Recovery School District is actually one if the most rapidly improving districts in the state. The Recovery School District has improved eighteen percent since the 2009-2010 school year.
