LOUISIANA (KALB-NBC) — A cool summer season is expected to lead to higher corn yields across Louisiana.
In Louisiana alone, more than 700,000 acres of corn will be harvested.
According to the USDA, Louisiana corn production is expected to increase 33 percent from last year.
Central Louisiana corn farmers say they are pleased with the outcome of this year’s corn yield.
"Everything is going good. Harvesting is going good. The weather is cooperating that we can get the crops out the field. Corn yields are very good this year,” stated corn farmer Darrell Franks. “All the farmers had the rains that we needed; we got them whenever the corn was pollinating and when we needed the rain, we got it."
Government research shows Louisiana is expected to produce 122 million bushels of corn in 2013.
