A non-profit organization is offering a new summer camp designed specifically for young ladies in Baton Rouge.

The Girls Rock Camp is open to females ages 10-16 and it will be held the week of June 17-21 at the Mentorship Academy in downtown Baton Rouge.

“[The camp] is dedicated to creating an environment that supports empowered learning for girls of all backgrounds and abilities, using music as a medium to encourage creativity, collaboration and individuality,” organizers said in a press release.

This is the first year for the camp and those who attend will learn how to write and perform a song by the end of the week. You don’t have to be proficient at playing an instrument because the goal is to learn how to play.

By the end of the camp, the girls will perform a showcase for friends and family at the Red Dragon Listening Room. It will be held on June 23 at 3:00 p.m.

The classes will be conducted by local musicians.

Tuition for Girls Rock Camp 2013 is $350 and is due upon recognition of receipt of a camper’s registration form. Tuition Assistance may be available for families who are unable to meet the $350 tuition cost.
