For many, Thursday was a day of history. "I've always wanted to be the first at something, and what better way to be the first than to be the first minority in the middle district of Louisiana to be appointed United States Chief Probation Officer," said Clarence Rambo.

As probation and pretrial officer, Clarence Rambo dealt first hand with defendants, and offenders--some of which have committed serious
crimes.  The Honorable Shelly D. Dick commented on his character, saying "You have a love for people, and the people that you serve are perhaps the hardest people to love."

Now, as chief, he will administer probation officers and personnel.  Chief Rambo says just being first is not enough.  "Hard work.  Hard work and dedication.  Never quit."

It hasn't been a solo journey either.  He gives much credit to his family.  "So I had my grandmother, my mother, and four aunts to keep me in line," he added.  "My granddad and I probably needed to move out and find another place to stay because it was rough with all those ladies," he joked.  He also says his wife and two daughters have stood not behind, but beside him all the way.   "I want to tell everybody that my dad's the chief," said his 6-year old daughter, Madison.

"It's been a true blessing.  It's a big deal, and I think people that we know and we love are starting to see the effects of it," said his wife, Keshia.  Daughter, Victoria described the moment when her mother shared the good news, "she was like, 'Oh, by the way, your dad's the
chief' and I literally like screamed and my friends were like, 'oh my gosh we've been praying for him' and it's so awesome.  So everyone's really excited."

And dozens looking on, and loved ones alongside, he made a vow--a vow to serve.

"I can't wait to see what he has in store for Louisiana," added Victoria.
"I didn't give up on my dream," said Chief Rambo with a smile.  "And today it has come true."
