Dutchtown 7-year-old spreads Christmas Cheer
ASCENSION PARISH, La (NBC33) — Case Bastin, 7, is starting his holiday season off with putting others first. Just one year ago the Dutchtown Primary student was diagnosed with Community-Associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococus Aureus (CA-MRSA) in his spine.
Community members, along with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, raised funds for the treatment for Bastin. Now that he is doing better, he wanted to return the favor to the sheriff’s office by giving a donation to the “Christmas Crusades” program.
“I wanted to ensure that people know the importance of giving back, not just during the holiday season, but year round,” said Bastin. “I hope that everyone has a great holiday season.”
CA-MRSA is an infection in healthy people who have not been hospitalized or had medical procedures within the past year according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Christmas Crusades is a program that provides Christmas gifts for children ages 0-12 years old from low income families.
