It's a dream come true for a Baton Rouge family. A local car dealer is helping a family whose son has Muscular Dystrophy get away on vacation. There's a new car, called the MV-1, that specially designed to help people in wheelchairs. Britt Conway has the story on how this vehicle is helping one family get to the beach.
It's a special day for Calem Guidry as he gets his first glimpse at the MV-1. The car that will take him and his family on vacation. Calem is 15-years-old, and he has Muscular Dystrophy. It's been a long time since he's been to the beach. His mother, Casie Guidry, says, "He was six, but he could still walk so he walked around then which wasn't easy for him because he walked around on his toes. When he got back, that's when we took him to the neurologist. That's when we found out he had Muscular Dystrophy."
Since then, making a family vacation happen just hasn't been easy because getting there isn't easy. So, the folks at Gerry Lane stepped up for this family. They're loaning them an MV-1, so they can fimally take that family vacation. "The community means more to us than just selling cars. We live here, we work here, and it is the right thing to do," explains Cedric Patton who is a co-owner of Gerry Lane.
Calem might be most excited that in this car, he gets to ride shotgun. They're headed to the beach in Florida. Calem's family has rented a special wheelchair for him that's made for the beach, so he can enjoy the time with his family.
