Downtown Baton Rouge will hopefully be changing one old building into a new entertainment hotspot.

The Richoux building will be turned into a Raising Cane's on the first floor, and a roof-top beer garden on the top floor. Davis Rhorer, executive director of the Downtown Development District says the $1.2 million building has been vacant for too long, and he said this will attract more people to downtown.

"Those who just want to recreate down here, so then again, everyone gets a great experience because ultimately, it's the city. It's the community. It's the regions downtown and it should be reflective of the whole area," Rhorer said.

Rhorer continued to say downtown has grown tremendously over the past five years, and he expects the same for the next five.

"Again, it comes to life. It's been vacant for several years and so to have a restaurant there at that corner, and then maybe another restaurant and a beer garden in the back, it will draw a lot of people," Rhorer said. "It's just another reason to come downtown. So whether you're going to the Manship Theater or the River Center, you have a place to eat beforehand, and in this case, you can just enjoy the ambience."

Rhorer said this addition is one of the 20 plus projects the Downtown Development District is working on right now. People should expect to see some movement with the project in the fall.
